Karma & Release

Symbolic practices for letting go of what keeps following you.

Cord cutting rests on an old idea: that a tie between two people is a real thing and can be cut. The Moirai measured a thread and cut it. In parts of Eastern Europe a red cord is burned to end a connection. Dion Fortune wrote about psychic cords in the 1930s, and the ritual reached its current shape through twentieth-century neopagan practice.

Release covers the wider ground — a chapter, a version of yourself, a pattern that keeps completing its circle and starting again. Family work sits here too: the same argument and the same silence, three generations apart.

People reach for these when something has ended on paper but not in practice. The practical part is finished and the rest is not.

A ritual gives the thing one last moment of your attention and then lets it dissolve. You can name what you are putting down or leave it unnamed; nobody else sees what you write, and some things are easier to set down without a label.

None of it settles an account somewhere on your behalf. It marks a decision you are making, which is the only part that was ever yours.
